Citizenship by Naturalisation for Exceptional Service by Direct Investment 

The Maltese citizenship-by-investment program provides you with a privileged opportunity to acquire an alternative citizenship which gives you the right to travel visa-free to over 183 different destinations including EU, USA, and Canada. Apart from traveling you can also choose to live indefinitely in any EU country including Norway, Iceland, Switzerland & Liechtenstein. Every applicant must ensure they are of good reputation and are subject to a tight due diligence process including intensive background checks.

 

The application process includes a four-tier due diligence three of which are carried out directly by the government to guarantee that each applicant is of a clean and good conduct. The Maltese government will also conduct comprehensive criminal checks in collaboration with INTERPOL, the International Criminal Court, and other deemed essential sources and authorities.

 

Applicants must confirm that they do not suffer from any contagious diseases and must be covered by an international health insurance policy until they are approved citizenship

 

Currently, nationals of the following countries are excluded

•Nationals of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

•The Islamic Republic of Iran

•The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea)

•All countries who are on the US travel ban

Notwithstanding the above, individuals who are not nationals of these countries, who however reside, conduct any type of business or have significant ties and connections with the above-mentioned countries are also excluded from application.

Fees:

Government Contribution: A government contribution is deemed to be paid before being granted with Maltese Citizenship, which can vary as below:

  • Standard procedure: If applying after 36 months, a contribution of €600,000 for the Main Applicant and €50,000 is added for each additional dependent;

  • Expedited procedure: If the applicant decides to apply at the 12th month or after only a year, a contribution of €750,000 is due, plus €50,000 for each additional dependent.

A Property Investment: Either buy a property in Malta with a minimum value of €700,000 or to lease a property for a minimum annual rent of €16,000 and retain it for at least five years from the date of the certificate of Citizenship;

Donation: A compulsory donation of €10,000 to a registered non-governmental organisation or society

The procedure requires the payment of the following Due Diligence fees;

  • Residence Application Fees:

    • €5,000 for the Main Applicant

    • €1,000 per each dependent

    • €27.50 Residence Card Fees per card

  • Eligibility Process Fees:

    • Due Diligence Fees:

      • €15,000 for the Main Applicant

      • €10,000 for adult dependents of over 18 years old

      • If the applicant is sponsored, a Due Diligence fee of EUR15,000

    • Administrative Fees:

      • €1,000 per applicant

  • Citizenship Application Fees:​

    • Administrative Fees:

      • €5,000 for the Main Applicant

      • €1,000 per applicant

 

In case of residence cards renewals, there will be a charge of €227.50, and for a change in address, the fee will be of €27.50.
